Preparation work

Care Point: Depressurise suspension system before disconnecting battery.

Care Point: Make sure EPB calipers are in service mode before disconnecting battery.

Care Point: Only drain transmission oil if replacing gearbox.

Care Point: Remove both sides.

Possible fluid spills from vehicle systems during repairs or maintenance.
Risk of thermal incidents, slip hazards, corrosion of electrical components, failure of electrical or mechanical components or unwanted odours.
Always limit fluid spills and fully clean the spilled fluid after repairs or maintenance.
 

Remove crank seal rear
 
Care Point:
Use a suitable container to catch the excess fluid.

 
1.  
Remove crank seal rear (1) with a suitable puller.
 


Install crank seal rear
 
Care Point:
Do not apply any oil or grease to the crank seal rear.

 
1.   
Clean crank housing bore (2) and end of crank.
 
2.   
Check crank housing bore (2) for sharp edges.
 

 
Care Point:
Apply RTV (Room Temperature Vulcanisation) silicone (4) before fitting expander tool.

 
3.   
Apply RTV silicone (4). Three Bond 1217F-GM
 

 
Care Point:
R: Rear side to engine.
F: Front side to transmission.

 
4.   
Make sure crank seal rear (1) is placed in right orientation.
 

5.   
Put expander tool (C2) on fitting tool (C1) in direction (A). Crankshaft Seal Rear - Engine
 
6.   
Attach crank seal rear (1) over expander tool (C2) in direction (B) until located on fitting tool (C1).
 
7.   
Remove expander tool (C2).
 

8.   
Attach fitting tool (C1) with crank seal rear (1) on crankshaft (3).
 

9.   
Align pressure pad (C3) on crank seal rear (1).
 
10.  
Screw bolt (C4) and press crank seal rear (1) home.
 
11.  
Remove all special tools.
 
12.  
Check the seal is fitted correctly.
 
13.  
Make sure area around seal is clean and free from dirt and debris to avoid contamination.
 
14.  
Install components in reverse order.
 
15.  
Check engine for leaks.
