WARNING!

Possible fluid spills from vehicle systems during repairs or maintenance.
Risk of thermal incidents, slip hazards, corrosion of electrical components, failure of electrical or mechanical components or unwanted odours.
Always limit fluid spills and fully clean the spilled fluid after repairs or maintenance.

Remove water pump drive chain kit

Care Point:
If a tension pin is not available, use a heat treated device with a diameter of 3 mm.

1.
Press back pins (arrow) of the chain adjusters.

2.
Insert tension pins (P) to secure it.

3.
Remove bolt (1) from compound gear (2). (M12x50) 110 Nm

4.
Remove pedestal (3).

5.
Insert the special tool (L). Compound Gear Alignment - Engine

6.
Before turning the special tool (L) slightly lift compound gear (2) (see direction of arrow) to allow timing chains to be taken off.

7.
Remove bolts (4). (M6x20) 10 Nm

8.
Remove water pump cover (5) and gasket.

Care Point:
Adjust sprocket so that bolt holes are vertical and accessible.

Care Point:
Do not remove centre screw!

9.
Release bolts (6). (M6x12) 10 Nm

Care Point:
If a tension pin is not available, use a heat treated device with a diameter of 3 mm.

10.
Bring tension blade into position.

11.
Insert tension pin (7) to secure it.

Care Point:
Use Loctite 270 for all shoulder bolts.

12.
Remove shoulder bolt (8). (M6x16) 10 Nm

13.
Remove tension pin and blade (7, 9) .

14.
Remove shoulder bolts (10). (M6x16) 10 Nm

15.
Remove chain guide (11).

16.
Remove water pump sprocket (12).

17.
Remove water pump chain (13).

Install water pump drive chain kit

Care Point:
Renew both water pump and oil pump chain drive kits.

Care Point:
Renew shoulder bolts (10). Apply Loctite 270 if the bolt does not already have encapsulated loctite present on the thread.

1.
Install water pump drive chain kit in reverse order.

2.

Care Point:
Remove all special tools for locking the camshafts and the crankshaft.

3.

4.
Rotate crankshaft through two revolutions.

Care Point:
Two technicians will be needed.

Care Point:
Fit crankshaft locking tool (F) rotate crankshaft (D) in clockwise direction (E).

5.
Check position of crankshaft with the crankshaft locking tool (F). Crankshaft Locking Pin - Engine

Care Point:
Before disassembling the engine the locking pins in the VCT phasers need to be checked for a positive connection to prevent incorrect valve timing when the engine is re-assembled.

6.
Using flat edge of cam shaft ®), attempt to rotate each camshaft in the opposite direction of its rotation (maximum 20 degrees). If camshaft rotates independently from VCT phaser, the locking pin in the VCT phaser has failed and requires replacement.
Chain driven VCT/Camshaft - Rotate anti-clockwise.
None chain driven VCT/Camshaft - Rotate clockwise.

Care Point:
Two technicians will be needed.

Care Point:
Fit camshaft tool (I) rotate crankshaft (D) in clockwise direction (E).

7.
Check and secure position of the camshaft (K) with the camshaft locking device special tool (I). Camshaft locking/timing - Engine

8.
Remove all special tools to unlock the camshafts and the crankshaft.

Care Point:
Replace O-ring.

9.
Install timing pin plug (A) 20 Nm with new O-ring.

10.
Clean all surfaces on the water pump cover and water pump.

Care Point:
Replace gasket from water pump cover.

Care Point:
Clean surfaces from all detached engine parts.

Care Point:
Renew front cover.

11.
Install components in reverse order.

12.
Read out and clear error memory.

13.
Start engine and leave running for 5 minutes for self learning to take place.

14.
Check engine for leaks.
