WARNING!

Possible fluid spills from vehicle systems during repairs or maintenance.
Risk of thermal incidents, slip hazards, corrosion of electrical components, failure of electrical or mechanical components or unwanted odours.
Always limit fluid spills and fully clean the spilled fluid after repairs or maintenance.

Remove chain drive kit - Oil pump

Care Point:
Disconnect fuel rail only at lower connection. Do not remove from the engine.

Care Point:
Block oil return galleries to prevent contamination.

1.
Cover the area around the cylinder head to prevent contamination (arrows).

Care Point:
Make sure the engine always rotates in the correct direction of rotation (arrow).

2.
Turn crank in the engine's direction of rotation.

3.
Rotate crank to position so machined flat are on top (arrow). Additional flats either side.

4.
Remove timing pin plug (A). 20 Nm

5.
Push down the transmission floor crossbeam (B) in direction ©).

Care Point:
Two technicians will be needed.

Care Point:
To fit crankshaft locking tool (F), rotate crankshaft (D) in clockwise direction (E).

6.
Insert crankshaft locking tool (F) in direction (G). Crankshaft Locking Pin - Engine

7.
Remove exhaust manifold heatshield to allow access to fixings.

8.
Remove bolts (H) and remove heatshield. (M6x16) 10 Nm

Care Point:
Before disassembling the engine the locking pins in the VCT phasers need to be checked for a positive connection to prevent incorrect valve timing when the engine is re-assembled.

9.
Using flat edge of cam shaft ®), attempt to rotate each camshaft in the opposite direction of its rotation (maximum 20 degrees). If camshaft rotates independently from VCT phaser, the locking pin in the VCT phaser has failed and requires replacement.
Chain driven VCT/Camshaft - Rotate anti-clockwise.
None chain driven VCT/Camshaft - Rotate clockwise.

Care Point:
Two technicians will be needed.

Care Point:
To fit camshaft tool (I) rotate crankshaft (D) in clockwise direction (E).

10.
Apply camshaft special tool (I) on the cornered shaft (J) from the camshaft (K). Camshaft locking/timing - Engine

11.
Remove bolt (1) from compound gear (2). (M12x50) 110 Nm

12.
Remove pedestal (3).

13.
Insert the special tool (K). Compound Gear Alignment - Engine

14.
Before turning the special tool (K) slightly lift compound gear (2) (see direction of arrow) to allow timing chains to be taken off.

15.
Release nut (4) but do not remove.

Care Point:
If a tension pin (5) is not available, use a heat treated device with a diameter of 3 mm.

16.
Bring tension blade into position (arrow).

17.
Insert tension pin (5) for securing it.

18.
Remove shoulder bolts (7). (M6x16) 10 Nm

19.
Remove tension and guide rail (6).

20.
Remove nut (4). (M8) 50 Nm

21.
Fit special tool (T1) behind the oil pump drive sprocket (8). Oil pump sprocket - Puller

22.
Fit special tool (T2).

23.
Screw in bolts (T3).

24.
Screw in nut (T4) and pull off oil pump drive sprocket (8).

25.
Remove oil pump chain (9).

Install chain drive kit - Oil pump

Care Point:
Renew nut (4).

Care Point:
Renew shoulder bolts (7). Apply Loctite 270 if the bolt does not already have encapsulated loctite present on the thread.

Care Point:
Renew oil pump chain drive kit is only required if the chain is damaged when replacing the water pump chain drive kit.

1.
Install oil pump chain kit in reverse order.

Care Point:
Remove all special tools for locking the camshafts and the crankshaft.

2.

3.
Rotate crankshaft through two revolutions.

Care Point:
Two technicians will be needed.

Care Point:
To fit crankshaft locking tool (F) rotate crankshaft (D) in clockwise direction (E).

4.
Check position of crankshaft with the crankshaft locking tool (F). Crankshaft Locking Pin - Engine

Care Point:
Before disassembling the engine the locking pins in the VCT phasers need to be checked for a positive connection to prevent incorrect valve timing when the engine is re-assembled.

5.

Care Point:
Two technicians will be required.

Care Point:
To fit camshaft tool (I), rotate crankshaft (D) in clockwise direction (E).

6.
Check and secure position of the camshaft (K) with the camshaft locking device special tool (I). Camshaft locking/timing - Engine

7.
Remove all special tools to unlock the camshafts and the crankshaft.

Care Point:
Replace O-ring.

8.
Install timing pin plug (A) 20 Nm with new O-ring.

Care Point:
If the oil pump is removed then replace the oil pump seal.

9.
Check oil pump seal and replace if necessary.

Care Point:
Clean surfaces from all detached engine parts.

Care Point:
