Preparation work

Care Point: Depressurise suspension system before disconnecting battery.

Care Point: Make sure EPB calipers are in service mode before disconnecting battery.

Care Point: Only drain transmission oil if replacing gearbox.

Care Point: Remove both sides.

Remove driveline damper
 
Care Point:
Using a suitable stand, support the engine at the rear.

Care Point:
Engine must be supported at the back underneath after the transmission has been removed, using a suitable stand.

Care Point:
When removing bolts (1), record torque required to “crack” bolts in Retailer Comments section of the work package.

 
1.  
Remove the bolts (1).(M6x10) 10 Nm
 
2.  
Remove the driveline damper cover NVH (2).

Install driveline damper locking tool (U).Crankshaft Locking tool
 

 
Care Point:
Observe sequence.

 
4.  
Remove the bolts (3) (M10x27) 90 Nm.
 
5.  
Remove the driveline damper (4) from the crankshaft.
 


Install driveline damper
1.   
Make sure driveline damper splines are free from grease, oil and dirt.
 

 
Care Point:
Check condition of driveline damper NVH pads, replace if any damage is present.

Care Point:
Check condition of crank sensor, replace if any damage is present.

Care Point:
Make sure driveline damper is aligned on crank dowel.

Put driveline damper (4) on crankshaft.
 
3.   
Fasten bolts (3) by hand.

Install driveline damper locking tool (U).Crankshaft Locking tool
 

 
Care Point:
Observe tightening sequence.

 
5.   
Mark a bolt (arrow).
 

 
Care Point:
Begin tightening sequence 1 - 8 with the marked bolt.

 
6.   
Tighten bolts (M10x27) 90 Nm.
 
7.   
Remove driveline damper locking tool.
 
 
Care Point:
Make sure grease does not exceed driveline damper splines.

 
8.   
Apply Clutch grease to driveline damper splines.
 
 
Care Point:
Make sure grease is not present on lead-in chamfer or rear face of driveline damper.
Do not use the same cleaning material for lead-in chamfer and rear face that is used to clean excess grease in splines.

 
9.   
Wipe away excess grease, leaving grease inside spline grooves only.
 
10.  
Make sure area is clean and free from dirt and debris to avoid contamination.
 
11.  
Install components in reverse order.
 
12.  
Check for leaks.
 
13.  
Connect McLaren Diagnostic System, proceed to Diagnostic toolbox within Engine Control Unit (ECU).
 
14.  
Access Sequences section.
 
15.  
Carry out Misfire adaptions routine.
 
16.  
Start engine and leave running for 5 minutes for self learning to take place.
 
17.  
Access Actual Values section.
 
 
Care Point:
Value should read between 1 and 4.

 
18.  
Check Camshaft actual values.
