WARNING!

Possible fluid spills from vehicle systems during repairs or maintenance.
Risk of thermal incidents, slip hazards, corrosion of electrical components, failure of electrical or mechanical components or unwanted odours.
Always limit fluid spills and fully clean the spilled fluid after repairs or maintenance.

Leak check
1.
Carefully inspect the engine for leaks.

2.
Inspect engine ladderframe, if damage is found raise a Technical Request and awaiting further instructions.

3.
Confirm that the oil leak is coming from the engine front cover. If no leaks are found or a leak is discovered in a different area, there is no need to proceed to the remaining steps.

4.
Take photographs of the leak area with the front cover installed and crankshaft nose. Attach the photographs to the Work Package.

5.
Replace the front crank seal following the procedure below, including replacing the front cover perimeter seal.

6.
Thoroughly clean front cover area.

7.
Install crankshaft damper.

8.
Run the engine for a minimum of 15 minutes.

Care Point:
If no leaks are found, no further action is required.

9.
Examine the front cover area for signs of leaking with crankshaft damper installed. If oil is still present, take photographs, raise a Technical Request and await further instructions.

10.
If no leaks are found, install remaining components in reverse order.

Remove front crank seal

Care Point:
Do not use hand tools to remove front crank seal.

1.
Remove front crank seal (1) from rear of front cover (2).

Install front crank seal
1.
2.
Install front cover to engine. DA-RM-05F001-01-002 - Remove/Install front cover

Care Point:
Make sure installation cone tool (T1) and fitting tool (T2) are clean and undamaged.

3.
Inspect fitting tools.

Care Point:
Make sure front cover seal bore face is clean and free from oil/debris.

4.
Install cone tool (T1) to crank nose. 5 Nm

Care Point:
Apply a light coating of engine oil to the circumference of the cone tool (T1).
Do not allow oil to drip from the tool.

5.
Oil the cone tool (T1).

Care Point:
Install front crank seal (1) with flat edge towards bulkhead.

Care Point:
Do not handle the inner face/circumference of the front crank seal when fitting to the cone tool (T1). Failure to do so could lead to damage to the seal, a failed repair and replacement.

6.
Install front crank seal (1) to cone tool (T1).

Care Point:
Only apply hand pressure to the fitting tool (T2) to slide the front crank seal (1) onto the larger diameter of the cone tool (T1).

7.
Install fitting tool (T2) onto cone tool (T1).

8.
Install bolt (T3, M10) to fitting tool.

Care Point:
Do not exceed the given torque value when tightening the bolt (T3).

9.
Tighten bolt (T3) with a torque wrench Max 30 Nm until the fitting tool (T2) comes into contact with the cover (2) face (arrow).

Care Point:
Do not tough the front crank seal once installed.

10.
Remove fitting tool (T2) and cone tool (T1).

11.
Clean front cover.

12.
13.
14.
15.
Check engine oil level on instrument cluster. DA-RM-05F003-00-002 - Check engine oil level

Care Point:
A small quantity of oil will be seen on the front cover after replacement of the front crank seal on initial engine running.

16.
Raise vehicle and check front cover for excessive leaks.

17.
Install remaining components in reverse order.
