WARNING!
 
Possible fluid spills from vehicle systems during repairs or maintenance.
Risk of thermal incidents, slip hazards, corrosion of electrical components, failure of electrical or mechanical components or unwanted odours.
Always limit fluid spills and fully clean the spilled fluid after repairs or maintenance.
 

Leak check
1.   
Carefully inspect the engine for leaks.
 
2.   
Inspect engine ladderframe, if damage is found raise a Technical Request and await further instruction.
 
3.   
Confirm that the oil leak is coming from the engine front cover. If no leaks are found or a leak is discovered in a different area, there is no need to proceed to the remaining steps.
 
4.   
Take photograph's of the leak area with the front cover installed. Attach the photograph.
 
5.   
Take photograph's of the crankshaft nose. Attach the photograph.
 
6.

Thoroughly clean front cover area.
 
8.   
Install crankshaft damper.
 
9.   
Run the engine for a minimum of 15 minutes.
 
 
Care Point:
If no leaks are found, no further action is required.
Allow engine to cool before replacing front cover perimeter seal.

 
10.  
Examine the front cover area for sign of leaking with crankshaft damper installed. If oil is present but from around the outside of the front cover, replace the front cover perimeter seal.
 
11.  
Install crankshaft damper.
 
12.  
Run the engine for a minimum of 15 minutes.
 
13.  
Examine the front cover area for sign of leaking with crankshaft damper installed. If oil is still present, take photograph's, raise a Technical Request and await further instruction.
 
14.  
Install remaining components in reverse order.
 

Remove perimeter seal - Front cover
 
Care Point:
Do not use any tooling to remove perimeter seal.
Lift seal out using locating tab (3).

 
1.  
Remove perimeter seal (1) from front cover (2).
 
2.  
Remove front crank seal from front cover (2).
 


Install perimeter seal - Front cover
 
Care Point:
Inspect front cover for damage.

Care Point:
Make sure all contact surfaces are clean and free from debris. Do not use abrasive cleaning materials.

Care Point:
Make sure replacement seal is in the correct orientation.

Care Point:
Do not attempt to re-use a perimeter seal.

 
1.  
Lubricate replacement seal with engine oil.
 
2.  
Install perimeter seal, starting with the square locating blocks.

Install components in reverse order, excluding engine floor panel and vehicle remains on ramp.
 
 
Care Point:
Residual oil from front cover installation may appear to be a leak. Thoroughly clean any suspect leaks and re-check.

Check engine for leaks.

Install remaining components in reverse order.
