Chassis / Steering / Steering Column / DA-RM-04D001-04-002 - Remove/Install steering column - Intermediate shaft
Preparation work

Care Point: If vehicle is right hand drive, do not remove washer bottle.

Care Point: On both sides of vehicle.

Care Point: On both sides of vehicle.

Care Point: Driver side only.

Remove steering column - Intermediate shaft
1.  
Remove clips (1).
 
2.  
Remove screws (2).
 
3.  
Disconnect footwell lamp electrical connector.
 
4.  
Remove facia closure panel - Driver (3).
 

 
Care Point:
Renew nut and bolt used for intermediate shaft.

 
5.  
Remove bolt (4). (M8x35) 22 Nm
 

6.  
Detach jubilee clip (5).
 
7.  
Move steering gaiter.
 

 
Care Point:
Renew nut and bolt used for intermediate shaft.

 
8.  
Remove bolt (6).(M8x35) 22 Nm
 
9.  
Remove steering column - intermediate shaft.
 


Install steering column - Intermediate shaft
 
Care Point:
Renew bolts and nuts used for intermediate shaft.

Care Point:
Feed steering column through steering gaiter and up into facia - Make sure jubilee clip is located on the steering gaiter.

Care Point:
Best align the steering rack in a straight ahead position.

Care Point:
Left hand vehicles only - Align the intermediate shaft with the splines on the rack with the bolt hole and white mark facing towards you and to the right hand side of the steering rack shaft. Slide fit shaft onto steering rack spline ensuring the reference line on the shaft lines up.

Care Point:
Right hand vehicles only - Align the intermediate shaft with the splines on the rack with the bolt hole and white mark facing towards you and to the right hand side of the steering rack shaft. Slide fit shaft onto steering rack spline ensuring the reference line on the shaft lines up.

Care Point:
Left hand and right hand intermediate shafts are not interchangeable. Make sure that the correct shaft is fitted to the rack installed on the vehicle.
