Preparation work

Remove steering wheel
 
Care Point:
DO NOTattempt to adjust the steering once the 12 o' clock position has been achieved and steering wheel removed.

 
1.  
Bring steering wheel into the middle position (front wheels in 12 o'clock position).
 

 
Care Point:
Do not tap the Allen key socket into the steering wheel bolt during removal.

Care Point:
Loosen bolt (1) as far as possible but do not remove from steering shaft.

 
2.  
Loosen bolt (1). (M16x25) 80 Nm
 

3.  
Mark steering shaft (2) and steering wheel (3) with a coloured spot.
 
 
Care Point:
Risk of component damage: Gently pull steering wheel rearwards.
Make sure bolt (1) is in place to stop steering wheel detaching from steering shaft before disconnecting electrical connector.

 
4.  
Loosen steering wheel from steering column splines.
 
5.  
Remove bolt (1).
 
6.  
Partially remove steering wheel (3).
 
7.  
Disconnect electrical connector and feed airbag electrical connector through steering wheel (3).
 
 
Care Point:
Install grenade pin whenever the steering wheel is removed from the vehicle.

 
8.  
Remove steering wheel (3) from vehicle.
 


Install steering wheel
1.  
Replace bolt (1).
 
 
Care Point:
Do not tap the Allen key socket into the steering wheel bolt during installation.

 
2.  
Install components in reverse order.
 
 
Care Point:
Carry out steps 3 to 5 once the steering wheel has been installed (original or new part).

 
3.  
Connect McLaren Diagnostic System, proceed to Diagnostic Toolbox within Steering Angle Sensor (SAS).
 
4.  
Access Sequences section.
 
5.  
Carry out Fine Tune Zero Position procedure.
 
6.  
Read out and clear error memory.
