Possible fluid spills from vehicle systems during repairs or maintenance.
Risk of thermal incidents, slip hazards, corrosion of electrical components, failure of electrical or mechanical components or unwanted odours.
Always limit fluid spills and fully clean the spilled fluid after repairs or maintenance.
 

Remove Bonnet
1.  
Disconnect washer tubing, release the washer tubing grommet and pull the washer tubing through the bonnet (1).
 
 
Care Point:
With the aid of another technician support the bonnet.

 
2.  
Remove bolts (2).(M6x40) 8 Nm
Remove bonnet (3) from vehicle.
 
 
Care Point:
Continue to steps 3 - 6 if replacing the bonnet.

 
3.  
Remove washer nozzles, nozzle adaptors and tubing.DA-RM-03A074-01-002 - Remove/Install washer nozzle
 
4.  
Remove HVAC seal (4).
 
5.  
Remove bump stops (5).
 
6.  
Remove latch striker (6).(M8x14) 8 Nm
 

7.  
Remove the bonnet vents (7).
 

8.  
Refer to the illustration for clip type and location (8).
 


Install Bonnet
 
Care Point:
Do steps 1 thru 6 if you replace the bonnet.

 
1.  
Replace the bonnet (1).
 

 
Care Point:
Do a check of the panel to see if the hem joints are sealed. You must seal the hem joints before you paint the panel.

Care Point:
If the hem joints are sealed you can continue the paint process and then install the components in reverse order.

 
2.  
Apply protection to the areas shown (1).
 

 
Care Point:
Make sure that you do not put tape or sealant on the top surface.

Care Point:
Make sure that the hem edge is fully taped.

Care Point:
Make sure that the tape is visually satisfactory.

Care Point:
When you apply cleaner, obey the manufacturer's flash times.

 
3.  
Clean the surfaces (1). Use Loctite 7064 Cleaner.
Put a continuous strip of 3M 2205 12mm Seam Sealer Tape on the areas shown (1).
 

 
Care Point:
Use a spatula to smooth the sealant over the hem.

Care Point:
Make sure that you fully seal the hem.

Care Point:
When you apply sealant, obey the manufacturer's flash times.

 
4.  
Apply sealant to the areas shown (1). The sealants that follow are permitted: Henkel Teroson MS9120, 3M 08684 Polyurethane Seam Sealer, Sika – Sikaflex 215, LORD – Versilok 500VLC.
Remove the unwanted sealant.
 
5.  
Do step 4 for the other side.
 
6.  
Remove the protection and continue the paint process.
 
7.  
Install the remaining components in reverse order.
 
 
Care Point:
The procedure below must be claimed separately if you make a warranty claim.

 
8.  
Make sure that the bonnet gap and flush values are in tolerance. Refer to DA-RM-02A052-00-001 - Gap and flush - Check and adjust - Closures.
